Why Choose bluem®
Revolutionising Oral Care
In medicine, it has long been established that oxygen plays a key role in almost every step of the wound healing process.
Using this information, bluem®’s unique, non-abrasive formula was developed to deliver a slow, powerful release of active oxygen designed to speed up the wound healing process. Combined with the anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of Lactoferrin, another of bluem®’s key ingredients, each product can be used to improve and maintain oral health.
As well as accelerating wound healing, bluem® also increases implant integration and bone regeneration in a safe, effective and non-invasive way.
How bluem® Products Work
Thanks to bluem®’s unique formula, active oxygen is released within 30 seconds of use and penetrates around 0.5 cm into the tissues in the mouth.
The non-toxic formula kills only the harmful (anaerobic) bacteria in the mouth with no side effects. Unlike antibiotics, no immune resistance is developed, meaning each product can be continuously used.
All bluem® products are quick and easy to use, allowing patients to easily continue their treatment plans at home.
The Benefits of Active Oxygen in Wound Healing
Wound healing requires a variety of cells to increase their metabolic activity, resulting in high oxygen demand. Oxygen at the wound site has been shown to promote wound healing by stimulating several processes with the following results:
- Increases cell metabolism and energy production
- Increases rate of cell proliferation and re-epithelialization
- Increases collagen synthesis and tensile strength
- Increases anti-bacterial activities
- Increases angiogenesis and promotes revascularisation
- Promotes growth factor signalling transduction
Increasing the local active oxygen available in the wound area, bluem® contains low concentrations of sodium perborate, and the enzyme glucose oxidase (GOX).
On application, and in the presence of moisture, the sodium perborate converts to sodium borate and H202 (hydrogen peroxide), while the normally inactive GOX causes a gradual conversion of glucose into gluconic acid and H202.
These low levels of hydrogen peroxide (0.003 – 0.015 %) act as a disinfectant and is present along with the ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species) during the respiratory burst of neutrophils found in normal body fluid. This has a chemotactic effect on leucocytes.
Using bluem® Before and After Surgery

Inspired by nature, bluem® products contain specially selected, natural ingredients designed to heal tissue and promote optimum oral health.
Active Oxygen - Playing a key role in almost every step of the wound healing process, the active oxygen contained in bluem® products is slowly released in the mouth.
Lactoferrin – An anti-inflammatory protein present in many secretory fluids, including saliva, Lactoferrin has many immune-boosting properties. It also harbours anti-bacterial and anti-viral functions and works against fungi and yeasts.
Xylitol - Present in fruits and vegetables, xylitol is a naturally occurring sweetener obtained from birch trees. It combats the build-up of plaque, reduces bacteria and dryness in the mouth and provides a fresh taste.
Honey – In the mouth, the glucose in honey starts a process called glucose-oxidation which causes the release of active oxygen. This oxygen reduces anaerobic bacteria and stimulates the blood flow of the gum, helping wounds to heal faster.
