Changes to Ethicon Sutures
Johnson & Johnson is making significant changes to their Ethicon suture range.
The switch will see the pharmaceutical giant replace its current range of dental sutures with a new line of Ethicon Plus Antibacterial Sutures. These innovative sutures, which handle like traditional wound-closing materials, have been developed to address the challenges of surgical site infection.
The changes will affect Ethicon’s Monocryl, Vicryl and PDS suture ranges.
Ethicon sutures are widely used by dental professionals around the world. The high-quality sutures are renowned for their smooth tissue passage, exceptional handling and secure knotting.
In a statement regarding the change, a spokesperson for Johnson and Johnson said: “The demonstrated effectiveness of Ethicon Plus Antibacterial Sutures in reducing risk of SSIs and delivering better patient outcomes compared to non-antibacterial sutures means we will now phase out non-antibacterial MONOCRYL™ (poliglecaprone 25) Sutures, Coated VICRYL™ (polyglactin 910) Sutures, and PDS™II (polydioxanone) Sutures in Great Britain and Northern Ireland for our Dental customers.
“Given the extensive medical evidence for the demonstrated effectiveness of Ethicon Plus Antibacterial Sutures in reducing the risk of Surgical Site Infection (SSI), we have made the decision to prioritise this area of our Dental suture portfolio.”
How Ethicon Suture Changes Affect You
Due to the sizeable nature of these changes, all Ethicon sutures on our website will be updated in stages over the coming weeks and months.
As well as potential package size and pricing updates, reference codes for all affected products will also be subject to change. For example, item W3201 code will change to MCP292H.
